Surrey County Council

If you are looking to return to work, but also to enjoy a healthy work-life balance, at Surrey County Council, we’ll go out of our way to make you feel welcome. As well as a range of full-time opportunities, we have part time posts across all departments, including a large number that suit flexible working arrangements, some including homeworking.

We empower our employees to develop a career path that fits around their other commitments by embracing a range of innovative practices that includes term-time working, flexi-working, staggered hours, compressed hours and job-sharing.

But it’s not just the hours you’ll keep that will keep you with Surrey County Council. Our commitment to flexibility extends to the benefits you can earn, that can be built around your needs – from BUPA medical and dental insurance to retail vouchers and travel insurance. A childcare vouchers scheme gives you the chance to make great savings on childcare costs, and our belief in learning and development means you won’t get left behind, no matter what your job.

Above all, it’s about being as understanding and supportive as possible when it comes to working parents’ needs.

Gina’s story is a typical one.

Gina Hoskins

“The reason I joined Surrey County Council was because they were offering an interesting job that fitted in with school hours – and that’s not something that’s easy to find!

“Working part time has been no obstacle to my career development (I’ve been promoted twice during my time here). I’m doing job share at the moment, which is a great way to manage family responsibilities and have job satisfaction at the same time.

“I will soon have spent five years at Surrey County Council, which means my annual leave allowance will increase from 24 to 28 days – should come in very useful to help cover school holidays. We also work flexi time, so I am allowed to take an extra day a month off if I make up the time.”

We always have a wide range of opportunities available. So whether you’re looking to carry on where you left off with your career, or try your hand at something new, we should have something to match.
